Border Cats Chopped Down by Loggers
The Thunder Bay Border Cats began their quick two-game road trip tonight against the Lacrosse Loggers. In the first game of the trip, the Cats were blown out 9-4.
The Cats got on the board first thanks to a first-inning solo home run from Brady Gulakowski (3). However, in the bottom half of the inning, the Loggers bounced right back with a solo home run of their own to tie the game. In the fourth inning, the Cats reclaimed the lead thanks to a Brandon Bossard RBI groundout. The lead was shortlived as in the fifth inning the Loggers scored four runs to take a 5-2 lead. A costly error from Willie Bourbon allowed two runs to score followed by a two-run home run from Harrison Freed (11) was the difference in the inning. From there the Loggers took control and never looked back.
The Cats were held to only six hits in the ballgame. Two of them came off of the bat of Willie Bourbon. The Cats starting pitcher Drew Gooch (2-3) pitched five innings allowing five runs but only one of them being earned.
The Cats will play the second game of the series tomorrow versus the same Loggers. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 ET. You can follow all the action through the Border Cats Twitter tbbordercats.
