Border Cats Comeback Falls Short Versus Huskies
The Thunder Bay Border Cats opened a quick two-game homestand Tuesday night versus the rival Duluth Huskies. The Huskies took game one 8-7 over the Cats.
The Huskies got on the board first thanks to a one-run first inning and a two-run second inning. They held the lead for the remainder of the game but not before the Cats were able to put some pressure on them. The Cats were able to cut the lead to only one in the sixth inning when Kyle Czaplak hit an RBI double to score Billy Cook. However, in the top half of the seventh inning, the Huskies scored three runs to take a 6-2 lead. The big hit of that inning came off of the bat of Huskies designated hitter Christian Jones who hit a two-run home run. The Cats once again cut the lead to only one as they matched the Huskies with a three-run inning. Cam Pearcey and Billy Cook added the RBI’s for the Cats. In the eighth and ninth innings, the teams went back and fourth scoring one run in each half inning. The Cats came close in the ninth inning, with one run already in the Cats loaded the bases with two outs. Unfortunately, they were unable to tie the game and dropped their fourth straight.
The Cats will play the final game of the series and homestand tomorrow against the same Huskies. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM. It’s Weenie Wednesday with 2-for-1 hot dogs! The box office opens at 11 AM. If you can’t make it tomorrow you can follow along on Twitter @tbbordercats.
