Border Cats Blow Late Lead in Loss to Honkers
The Thunder Bay Border Cats began their road trip in Rochester, MN. versus the Honkers. The Cats took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning and held the lead all the way until the sixth inning when the Cats added three more runs. However, the 4-0 lead was shortlived as in the next three innings the Honkers scored six unanswered runs to win the game 6-4.
Calvin Wood started the game for the Cats and was solid in his five and 1/3 innings pitched. He allowed nine Honkers to get on base but was able to get out of multiple tough situations. Jack Rasmussen and Keenan Eaton entered the game out of the bullpen and combined to allow four runs but only one of them was earned. They did not get much help defensively from the Cats behind them as there were four errors to help the Honkers get back into the game.
Offensively, Cam Pearcey and Billy Cook led the way for the Cats. Pearcey went 2-3 and scored two runs. Cook went 2-4 with two RBI’s and one run scored. The other RBI’s came off of the bats of Nick Conti and Brady Gulakowski.
The highlight of the night came from Cam Pearcey who took a home run away from the Honkers in the first inning. With a runner on base Cam Pearcey reached over the center field wall to bring back a home run and maintain the Border Cats 1-0 lead. The catch energized the Cats and gave them all the momentum. The video of the catch is coming soon! Stay tuned to the Border Cats multiple social media accounts for the clip.
