BIG 8TH PROPELS MOONDOGS OVER BORDER CATS
Garrett Mitchell’s two run blast in the 8th broke a 6-6 tie as the Mankato Moondogs take down the Thunder Bay Border Cats 10-6 at Port Arthur Stadium. The Moondogs made 6 errors, however, the Border Cats couldn’t capitalize as they left 15 men on base. Kyle MacDonald continued his stellar season as he smacked his league high 14th home run and adding to his league best RBI total to 65. Cam Pearcey led the way for the Cats going 3-for-6 with a home run and 2 RBI. The Coastal Carolina University product is now batting .325 on the season. Billy Cook, Willie Bourbon, Nick Conti, and Kyle Czaplak each drove in a run for Thunder Bay. Austin Bull and Garrett Mitchell each had 2 RBI for the Moondogs. Both starters struggled in this one as Luke Malone allowed 6 earned runs over 5 innings for Thunder Bay, while Mankato starter Josh Ramirez allowed 4 runs (3 earned) giving up 8 hits over 3 and a third innings. Keenan Eaton picked up the loss. Brett Newberg got the win for the Moondogs. The 4-game home stand continues Saturday night as the Border cats begin a 2-game series with the St. Cloud Rox. It is Host Family Appreciation Night. Make sure you get down to the park early as the 1st 200 fans will receive a signed picture of our all-stars Billy Cook and Alex Nolan. 1st pitch 6:05 pm.
