The Border Cats and Loggers played a double header on Wednesday in La Crosse. Game one did not go the Border Cats way as the Loggers pumped out 11 runs in the 1st inning en route to a decisive 22-9 win. Connor Centala struggled as he didn’t make it out of the 1st inning giving up 9 earned runs over 2/3rds of an inning, while Luke Malone also gave up 9 earned runs over his 3 and a 3rd innings of work. The Loggers set a team record with 27 hits in the contest. 7 La Crosse players had 2-plus RBI in the game with Austin Murr leading the way driving in 4. Mike Rothenberg went 4-4 (2 walks) with 3 RBI and 4 runs scored for La Crosse. Brandon Trammell led the way for the Cats driving in a pair of runs and going 3-4 at the dish with 3 runs scored.
In game two, the Cats struggled to get anything going as they only managed three hits and lost 2-0. Cam Pearcey, Calen Schwabe, and Kyle Czaplak were the ones with a hit. The starting pitcher Drew Demler was solid in his outing going six innings of six hit ball. He allowed the two runs but struck out five and picked up his first loss of the season.
The Cats will now head home to start a four game homestand beginning on Thursday night against the Eau Claire Express. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM. The box office will open at 11 AM. It’s Thirsty Thursday where all Sleeping Giant beer is $1 off!
