Border Cats Drop Firework Spectacular Game

The Thunder Bay Border Cats dropped the opening game of the series to the Willmar Stingers 8-5. It was a packed house to cheer on the Border Cats and they had some moments to celebrate. The Cats scored four runs in the second inning to cut the Stingers lead to 6-4. The Cats were led by a Willie Bourbon three-RBI triple and a Ben McConnell fielder’s choice. The Cats had trouble getting some offense going after that as they were only able to score one more run in the seventh inning. The Stingers pitching shut them down and limited the Cats to nine hits in the ballgame. Among those hits, Willie Bourbon had two and Clayton Bodine had three.

On the mound, Drew Gooch started the game and struggled in his one inning. He faced all nine Stingers and allowed five earned runs. Chris Fousek came in relief and pitched well in his five innings. He limited the Stingers to only three runs and kept the Cats in the ballgame for a chance at a comeback. Tyler Moskalyk finished the game and didn’t allow any runs in his three innings.

The Cats will play the final game of the season tomorrow afternoon against the same Stingers. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 PM. All kids 12 and under get in for FREE so come to get your tickets! The box office opens at 11 AM. The first 500 people will receive a FREE 2018 team picture!
