Thunder Bay Border Cats erupted for five runs in the fourth inning and rolled to a 10-4 victory over the Eau Claire Express before a sun splashed Father’s Day crowd of 1,385 Sunday afternoon at Port Arthur Stadium. Trey Lewis (South Alabama) had a two-run single in the uprising and Jonah Sutton (University of Memphis) doubled home two more runs as the Cats evened their season record at 8-8. Sutton had a big day at the plate with three hits and four runs batted in. Peter Fusek (Western Illinois University) and Tyler Griggs (Gonzaga University) also added three hits while Zane Skansi (Creighton University) put the Cats ahead for good with a third inning solo home run, his first of the season, that put Thunder Bay ahead 2-1.
Billy Humphrey (Western Illinois University) got the win in relief, pitching five innings of two-run ball, with three strikeouts after starter Peyton Fosher (University of Nevada) departed following the first inning when his pitch count exceeding the league maximum of 35 per inning.
The Border Cats continue their six-game homestand on Monday when they kick off a four-game series against the Waterloo Bucks. First pitch at Port Arthur Stadium is 6:35pm with righthander Matt Tippie (Texas State University) taking his 0-1 record to the mound for Thunder Bay.
