The Thunder Bay Border Cats battled back from an early 7-0 deficit, tying the Duluth Huskies 8-8 after 7 1/2 innings, before falling 12-8 on Monday at Wade Stadium. The Huskies scored four times in the bottom of the eighth for the win. Tyler Kehoe (South Alabama) had a key hit in the Cats rally with a three-run double in a five-run fifth inning while Logan Johnstone (Washington State University) went 3-for-5 on the night with a run scored and a run batted in. Daylan Pena (Texas State University) had two hits and two RBI and Zane Skansi (Creighton University) also had two hits.
On the mound, Thunder Bay’s Will Droll (University of Pittsburgh) extended his scoreless inning streak to 11 as he tossed 3 1/3 shutout innings, allowing just one hit, with four strikeouts. Griffin Catto (Jefferson College) took the loss as he allowed three runs in relief. The Cats and Huskies wrap up their two-game series Tuesday night at 7:35pm ET. Robert Spencer (Texas A&M University-Kingsville) is the scheduled starter for Thunder Bay. The righthander is 1-1 in five games with a 4.30 earned run average.
