The Thunder Bay Border Cats closed out their six-game road trip in Waterloo, Iowa on Friday, losing a tough one, 8-3 to the Bucks at Riverfront Stadium. The game was tied 2-2 before the Bucks erupted for six runs in the bottom of the eighth inning as the hottest team in the Northwoods League won their ninth straight game.
Evans Hendricks (Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi) started on the mound for Thunder Bay and went 4 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits with four strikeouts. Thunder Bay’s Will Droll (University of Pittsburgh) was the first arm out of the bullpen and the southpaw pitched two-plus shutout innings extended his scoreless inning streak to 13 1/3 innings. However, Droll gave up five runs in the last of the eighth to take the loss as his record slipped to 0-1.
Logan Johnston (Washington State University) had two hits, including a double and a sacrifice fly, while Cole Ketzner (South Alabama) and Ryder Hernandez (Texas State University) also collected two hits on the night.
The Border Cats return to the friendly confines of Port Arthur Stadium on Saturday for a four-game homestand where they have a 12-10 record. Thunder Bay native Jack Pineau (Creighton University) will be on the hill against the Mankato MoonDogs in the opener of a two-game weekend set. Pineau is 1-1 with a stellar 3.24 ERA in seven appearances on the season. First pitch is set for 6:35pm, but gates open early with a special pregame concert starting at 5:00 featuring Tim Albertson on Country Night presented by Country 105.
