The Thunder Bay Border Cats returned home on Saturday, but lost a slugfest 15-9 to the Mankato MoonDogs before a Country Night crowd of 1,055 at Port Arthur Stadium.  The Cats had a 5-2 lead after two innings, but the MoonDogs scored four times in the top of the third and six times in the fourth to take the opener of the two-game series.
Thunder Bay’s Jack Pineau (Creighton University) started for the Cats and took the loss dropping his record to 1-2.  The righthander gave up seven hits and six runs over 2 2/3 innings.  Shortstop Karson Krowka (Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi) led Thunder Bay at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a run scored, while Travis Chestnut (Texas A&M University) had two hits, two walks, two runs scored, one run batted in and four stolen bases to increase his league leading total to 29.  Tyler Kehoe (South Alabama) Daylan Pena (Texas State University) and Zane Skansi (Creighton University) all had two hits as the Cats home record fell to 12-11 on the season.
The two teams meet again Sunday afternoon at 1:35pm with righthander Karson Sheperd (Texas A&M University-Kingsville) the scheduled starter for the Cats. It’s Family Day with 4 tickets, 4 hot dogs, 4 Pepsi and 4 bags of Old Dutch chips for $44.00 and kids can run the bases after the game.
