Thunder Bay native Will Droll represented the Border Cats at the 2023 Northwoods League/Great Plains All-Star Game Tuesday night in Bismarck, North Dakota, and the southpaw had an impressive outing. Droll came on in the fifth inning with his East Division squad trailing 1-0 and the game between the East Division and West Division All-Stars ended in a 3-3 tie when the game was called after seven innings because of rain and a tornado warning in the Bismarck area.
Droll, who has played collegiately at the University of Pittsburgh, recorded strikeouts of Drew Woodcox of the Minot Hot Tots and Benjamin Rosengard of the host Bismarck Larks, sandwiched by a foul-out by Kyle Payne of the Willmar Stingers.
The Border Cats had a total of four players selected for the game, however Travis Chestnut (Texas A&M University) is out for the season with an ankle injury, Thunder Bay righthander Jack Pineau (Creighton University) has been shut down for the summer after reaching his innings limit and catcher Cole Ketzner (University of South Alabama) has also been shut down for the season. Following the All-Star Break, the Border Cats return to action on Thursday when they open their final six-game homestand at Port Arthur Stadium against the Minnesota Mud Puppies at 6:35pm.
