Zane Skansi hit the Border Cats first home run of the season in their second straight win over the Rochester Honkers.

The Thunder Bay Border Cats banged out 13 hits on Tuesday night and completed a two-game sweep of the Rochester Honkers with a 5-3 win at Mayo Field.

Zane Skansi (Creighton University) led the Cats offensively, hitting the team’s first home run of the season in the third inning, and that turned out to be the game winning RBI as it gave Thunder Bay a 2-1 lead. Skansi added a run scoring double and a single to finish 3-for-5 with two runs batted in and one run scored. Lucas Terilli (Eastern New Mexico University), Trey Fikes (Three Rivers College), and Kenneth Sugi (Missouri University of Science & Technology) all added two hits as the Cats improved to 2-0 on their opening four-game road trip.

Andrew Hardin (Southwestern University) pitched five innings to pick up the victory. The righthander allowed six hits and three runs with four strikeouts. Peter Fusek (University of Wisconsin-Parkside) had another stellar performance out of the bullpen. Fusek tossed four scoreless innings and struck out three for his first save. The second year Border Cat has thrown six shutout innings through the first two games of the season.

Thunder Bay travels into Wisconsin on Wednesday to face the La Crosse Loggers in the opener of a two-game series. Lefthander Shane Kearbey (University of Missouri-St. Louis) will get the start on the mound with first pitch scheduled at 7:35pm ET.
