The first place Thunder Bay Border Cats improved to 6-1 on the season with a come from behind 5-4 win over the Eau Claire Express on Sunday in front of 745 fans at Port Arthur Stadium. Zane Skansi (Creighton University) knocked in the tying and winning runs in the last of the eighth inning with a base hit just inside the third base bag as the Cats ran their home record to a perfect 3 and 0. Skansi went 3-for-5, including a double and a run scored, to go along with his two runs batted. Ty Brooks (University of South Alabama) chipped in with two hits, while Ty Hamilton (University of Utah) reached base three times with a single, a pair of walks, and one run scored.
Griffin Catto (Southern Illinois University) notched his second win in relief as he pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings with three strikeouts and Sean Heppner (University of British Columbia) pitched out of a jam in the top of the ninth inning to nail down his second save.
The Cats and Express meet again on Monday night at 6:35pm. Andrew Hardin (Southwestern University) will take his 1 and 0 record to the mound for Thunder Bay. Fans can use their Bogo Cards and receive two tickets for $22.00.
