A School Day crowd of 2,853 took in the Border Cats game against the Duluth Huskies on a beautiful day for baseball at Port Arthur Stadium.

The Thunder Bay Border Cats suffered back-to-back losses for the first time season as they were beaten 6-4 by the Duluth Huskies before 2,853 young fans Monday on the first School Day Game of the 2024 schedule. The loss dropped Thunder Bay’s first place record to 10-4 atop the Great Plains East Division.

The Cats battled back from an early 4-0 deficit to tie the score with Ty Brooks (University of South Alabama) driving in two runs with a single in the bottom of the eighth inning, but the Huskies hit their second home run of the day in the top of the ninth, a two-run shot by MJ Sweeney (Grossmont College) to complete the two-game sweep. Brooks led the Cats at the plate going 3-for-5, including a double and a run scored, while Lucas Terilli (Eastern New Mexico University) and Jacob Miller both had two hits, including one double each. Garfield Johns (University of South Alabama) took the loss in relief.

The Cats will now enjoy two days off, before opening a two-game series in Rochester on Thursday against the Honkers. Thunder Bay’s next home game is Saturday, June 15, at 6:35pm against the Wausau Woodchucks.
