Boosted by Father’s Day and a large group of little leaguers from the Port Arthur Nationals, a big crowd of 2,617 took in Sunday’s game at Port Arthur Stadium, but the Border Cats were downed 9-3 by the Wausau Woodchucks. The Woodchucks upped their Northwoods League leading record to 17-3, while the Cats fell to 11-7. Thunder Bay remains in top spot in the Great Plains East Division despite losing its third straight. The Cats had a 2-0 after the first inning, but the Woodchucks scored a pair of runs in both the third and fourth frames and put the game away with a four-run sixth inning.

Kyle Morrison (Shelton State CC) led the Cats at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a double and a run batted in. Cole Poirrier (Nicholls State University) started for the Cats and took the loss to fall to 0-1. The righthander pitched four innings and allowed four runs (two earned), on six hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

The Cats have Monday off and continue their 8-game homestand on Tuesday with the opener of a 4-game series against the Waterloo Bucks. First pitch is at 6:35pm. The stadium ticket office is open Monday from 11:00am to 3:00pm.
