Mitch Marner of the Toronto Maple Leafs joined his brother-in-law Border Cats shortstop Greg LaChance on the field Friday for the ceremonial first pitch.

The Thunder Bay Border Cats were involved in another low scoring affair Friday night at Port Arthur Stadium as they fell 3-1 to the Duluth Huskies. A crowd of 1,512 was on hand, many of them to see Toronto Maple Leafs star Mitch Marner, who threw out the ceremonial first pitch.

Andrew Hardin (Tarleton State University) gave up a pair of solo homers and took the loss to fall to 2-1. The righthander went five innings and allowed three runs on four hits with six strikeouts. Brody Chrisman (Purdue University) had two hits as Thunder Bay’s record slipped to 12-11.

The Cats wrap up their eight-game homestand on Saturday against Duluth at 6:35pm. Thunder Bay native Jack Pineau (Creighton University) makes his fourth start of the season. The righthander is 1-0 with a 2.87 ERA. It’s also Whiskey Jacks Night presented by Rock 94. The home team will wear special purple jerseys and Whiskey Jacks merchandise will also be on sale. Duluth will be doning Dukes jerseys from their days in the Northern Professional League as well. The stadium ticket office opens at 10:00am.
