Greg LaChance (pictured) and the Border Cats opened a six-game road trip Sunday in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

The Thunder Bay Border Cats opened a six-game road trip with a 6-4 loss to the Loggers in La Crosse on Sunday. The defeat dropped the Cats record to 13-12 and leaves them 2.5 games behind the first place Loggers (15-9), in the Great Plains East Division.

The Cats had an early 2-0 lead, but the Loggers broke the game open by scoring five times in the bottom of the third inning. Cole Poirrier (Nicholls State University) started for the Cats and took the loss to fall to 0-2. The righthander allowed five runs in two-plus innings on two hits and four walks, while striking out three. Zane Skansi (Creighton University) had a perfect night at the plate going 3-for-3 with a walk, two doubles and one run batted in. Skansi leads the team with a .361 batting average. Trey Fikes (Three Rivers College) went 2-for-5 with an RBI as Thunder Bay outhit La Crosse 9-5 in the game.

The two teams wrap up their two-game series on Monday at Copeland Park at 7:35pm ET. Julian Parson (University of South Carolina-Upstate) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Border Cats.
