Brody Chrisman (pictured), smashed a two-run homer in the Border Cats 6-4 road win over La Crosse.

The Thunder Bay Border Cats made it back-to-back wins over first place La Crosse with a 6-4 victory over the Loggers on a rainy Friday night at Copeland Park. The win evened Thunder Bay’s record at 15-15 with Lacrosse falling to 19-11.

Zane Skansi (Creighton University) got the Cats on the board with a two-run home run in the second inning, his team leading fourth of season. After Brayden Kuriger (Nicholls State University) delivered an RBI double in the top of the fourth, Brody Chrisman (Purdue University) followed with a two-run homer to give the Cats a 5-0 lead. The Loggers scored a pair of runs in the fifth inning making it 5-2, but Cole Ketzner (University of South Alabama) added an insurance run in the sixth with a run scoring double. The Loggers plated two runs in the bottom of the inning to round out the scoring.

Jack Pineau (Creighton University) started for the Cats and went 4 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on three hits with six strikeouts. Tyrus Riley (Fort Hays State University) was outstanding in relief to pick up the victory. The big righthander struck out 10 over 4 1/3 innings, while giving up two runs on just two hits.

The Cats return to Port Arthur Stadium Saturday to kick off an eight-game homestand with the first of four against the Rochester Honkers. Cole Poirrier (Nicholls State University) is the scheduled starter for Thunder Bay with first pitch set for 6:35pm. It’s “Season Ticket Redemption Night #1” as fans can exchange their 2024 unused tickets for new seats.
