Boomer takes in the fireworks show following the Border Cats fourth straight victory.
 
There were plenty of fireworks during and after the game at Port Arthur Stadium as the Border Cats won a wild one 17-13 over the Rochester Honkers before 1,823 fans on Sunday night that featured a fireworks show to celebrate the Canada Day weekend.  It was the Cats fourth straight win to improve their record to 17-15 while the Honkers dropped to 11-23.  The teams combined for 30 runs and 28 hits with a total of 10 errors, five miscues by each club.
Thunder Bay erased a 2-0 Rochester lead with a seven-run first inning, only to fall behind 13-7 after three innings, but the Cats rallied to score the final 10 runs of the game, including a six-run eruption in the last of the eighth inning.
Catcher Tucker Stockman (University of Southern Mississippi) led the barrage at the plate with four hits, including three doubles, with two of them coming in the eighth inning, while driving in two runs and scoring twice.  Zane Skansi (Creighton University) went 2-for-6 with a double, two runs batted in, and four runs scored.  Trey Fikes (Three Rivers College) and Alex Urlaub (North Dakota State University) both collected three hits with Urlaub adding a pair of runs batted in.
Trevor Baugh (Fort Hays State University) gave the pitching staff a huge boost as he fired five innings of shutout relief, giving up just two hits, and striking out three for his first victory of the season.
The Cats and Honkers continue their four-game series on Monday with a holiday start time of 1:35pm. Japanese righthander Kansai Sugimoto (Yavapai CC) is the scheduled starter for the Cats.   It’s the annual Canada Day Jersey Auction presented by GFL with proceeds going towards Special Olympics.  The stadium ticket office opens at 10:00am.
