After 30 runs were scored on Sunday in a 17-13 Thunder Bay triumph, only three were put up on the scoreboard Monday and the Border Cats fell 2-1 to the Rochester Honkers before a Canada Day crowd of 1,278 fans at Port Arthur Stadium.

The Honkers scored single runs in the third and fifth innings with the lone Thunder Bay run coming in the last of the fifth on an RBI single by Zane Skansi (Creighton University) that scored Brayden Kuriger (Nicholls State University). Kansai Sugimoto (Yavapai CC) took the loss as the Japanese righthander allowed one run on four hits with four walks and two strikeouts over 3 1/3 innings.

The Canada Day Jersey Auction, presented by GFL, and in support of Thunder Bay Special Olympics, totalled $4,705.00 with Jack Pineau’s #15 jersey the highest at $500.00.

The Border Cats and Honkers close out the first half of the Northwoods League season on Tuesday at 6:35pm. Caleb Bunch (Northwestern State University) takes to the mound for the Cats. The stadium ticket off opens Tuesday morning at 10:00.
