The Thunder Bay Border Cats wound up with a split of their two-game series with St. Cloud as they dropped a 7-1 decision to the Rox on Thursday before a crowd of 1,057 at Port Arthur Stadium. Both teams are now 1-1 in the second half with Thunder Bay’s overall record at 19-17.
The Rox broke open a 2-1 game by scoring three times in the sixth inning and added two more runs in the eighth. Ty Hamilton (Florida Southwestern State College) drove in the lone Thunder Bay run with a fifth inning single. Thunder Bay native Jack Pineau (Creighton University) started for the Cats and took the hard luck loss to fall to 2-1 on the season. Pineau pitched five innings and allowed two runs on three hits with two walks and four strikeouts.
The Cats continue their eight-game homestand on Friday when they open a two-game series against the La Crosse Loggers. Lefthander Adam Metivier (Piedmont University) will make his 2024 debut on the mound for the Cats. Game time is 6:35pm. It’s also “Fly Away Friday” as fans will have a chance to win a trip for two anywhere Porter Airlines flies. The stadium ticket office opens on game days at 10:00am.
