The Thunder Bay Border Cats had a 7-4 lead over the La Crosse Loggers in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader when heavy rain and lightning suspended the game in the bottom of the fourth inning with the Cats batting and none out. The game will resume on Sunday afternoon at 1:35pm and will be seven innings in length. Following a 30-minute break, the regularly scheduled game will be played and also be seven innings. Both games will be one admission price. Fans holding tickets dated July 13 can redeem them on Sunday or for any other 2024 regular season home game, subject to same seat availability.
In the nightcap, the Border Cats rallied from early 3-0 and 4-2 deficits to take the 7-4 lead. Zane Skansi (Creighton University) also collected two hits, while Riley Iffrig (Indiana State University) delivered a two-run single. Lefthander Adam Metivier (Piedmont University) started on the mound for the Cats and pitched a scoreless third and fourth innings and overall gave up four runs over four frames.
In the first game of the doubleheader following Friday’s postponement, the Loggers won 5-2, dropping the Cats second half record to 7-4. NWL All-Star Jackson Cooke (University of Tennessee at Martin) had two hits, including a run scoring double for Thunder Bay. Mason Lemons (Arkansas State University-Mountain Home) started for the Cats and took the loss to fall to 1-1. The righthander pitched 3 2/3 innings and allowed four runs on eight hits.
