Max Ramirez IV (pictured), ran his record to a perfect 6-0 Monday in the Border Cats 8-3 win over the La Crosse Loggers.

The Thunder Bay Border Cats waited out a two-hour plus rain delay on Monday night, but it was worth it in the end, as they downed the La Crosse Loggers 8-3 before 610 faithful fans at Port Arthur Stadium. The win upped the Cats second half record to 9-5, leaving them one game behind the first place Rochester Honkers with the two teams set to square off in a two-game series starting on Tuesday in Thunder Bay.

In the victory over the Loggers, Max Ramirez IV (Niagara University) stayed unbeaten, as the NWL All-Star improved to 6-0. The righthander gave up his first earned run in nine appearances this season, but that was the lone run of the night, as he pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing five hits, while striking out six. Ramirez IV, now as an miniscule earned run average of 0.38 in 24 innings pitched.

The Cats were up 4-1 and added some big insurance runs by scoring three times in the last of the fifth inning. Thomas Cooper (Valparaiso University) drove in four runs as he went 2-for-4 with a double. The Indiana State University duo of Riley Iffrig and Keegan Garis both added two hits as Thunder Bay improved its overall record to 27-21, which is tops in the Great Plains East Division.

The Cats continue their eight-game homestand tonight when they welcome the Honkers at 6:35pm. The stadium ticket office opens on game days at 10:00am.
