Shortstop Garrett Sloan (pictured), had an RBI single in the Border Cats loss to the Eau Claire Express on Saturday.

After back-to-back wins in Wausau, the Thunder Bay Border Cats were on the wrong end of an 8-4 decision to the Eau Claire Express on Saturday night at Carson Park. It was a 4-4 game until the Express scored four times in the bottom of the eighth inning to drop the Border Cats second half record to 15-13. Thunder Bay now trails Eau Claire and Duluth by one game atop the Great Plains East Division standings. The Huskies whipped the Waterloo Bucks 14-2.

Against the Express, the Cats rallied from a 4-1 deficit by scoring three times in the sixth inning, including a two-run home run off the bat of Jackson Cooke (University of Pittsburgh). It was Cooke’s ninth of the season, tying Cole Ketzner (University of South Alabama) for the team lead. The NWL All-Star is also tops on the club with 40 runs batted in. Peter Fusek (University of Wisconsin-Parkside) had a 2-for-4 night at the plate with a run scored as the Cats saw their record fall to 4-8 on their 13-game road trip. Bode Gebbink (Missouri University of Science & Technology) took the loss in relief, evening his record at 2-2.

The Cats wrap up their extended road trip Sunday afternoon in Eau Claire at 3:05pm ET. Peter Fusek is scheduled to take his 3-0 mark to the mound for Thunder Bay. The Cats return to Port Arthur Stadium on Monday to kick off a six-game homestand against Eau Claire at 6:35pm.
