A pair of familiar faces powered the Thunder Bay Border Cats to a 9-4 victory over the Duluth Huskies, capturing the first Lake Superior Cup contest of the 2025 campaign.

A five-run first inning gave the Border Cats the momentum they needed to prevail in front of a friendly Port Arthur Stadium crowd on Tuesday.

Returning Border Cats Ty Hamilton (Florida Southwestern State College) and Greg LaChance (University of Illinois) reintroduced themselves to the Thunder Bay faithful with run-scoring hits in the opening inning of their season debuts, while Braxton Templin (Georgetown Community College) also drove in a pair in the first.

Hamilton, LaChance and Templin each finished the game with 2 RBI, while Jeremy Sheffield (Georgetown University) and Manny Alberto (Three Rivers Community College) contributed with both driving in a run.

Hamilton was the Cwench player of the game for the Border Cats, going 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and a pair of stolen bases. Cwench is the official hydration partner of the Border Cats.

Pitcher William Spang (Cleveland Community College) was credited with the win on the mound.

The Border Cats improve to 4-4 on the season.

The Border Cats will conclude their two-game series against the Huskies with a special Wednesday school day game, with first pitch scheduled for 11:05 a.m. Tickers are on sale and available to the general public. Makaio Cisneros (Pensacola State College) is the expected starting pitcher for Thunder Bay.
