The Thunder Bay Border Cats started off their six-game road trip in commanding fashion.
A nine-run seventh inning allowed the Border Cats to rally and come away with a 15-7 victory over the Rochester Honkers at Mayo Field on Saturday night for their fourth straight win and seventh in their last nine games.
Greg LaChance (University of Illinois) had a 4-for-4 night at the plate, driving in four runs, capped by a two-run hit in that pivotal seventh inning. LaChance extended his hitting streak to 12 games.
Kael Babin (University of Nebraska-Omaha), Manny Alberto (Georgia Gwinnett College), and Jeremy Sheffield (Georgetown University) each had two-RBI performances.
Jordan Bach (University of Kansas) added one run batted in, marking his seventh straight game that he’s driven in a run.
Parker Burgess (Florida SouthWestern State College) was credited with the win on the mound for his first of the campaign.
The Border Cats move to 16-10 in the first half, finding themselves 3.5 games back of the La Crosse Loggers in the hunt for the Great Plains East division first half crown.
The Border Cats wrap up their two-game series against Rochester on Sunday. Cameron Johnson (Rutgers University) is the expected starting pitcher for Thunder Bay. The Border Cats will return to Port Arthur Stadium on June 27 to host the Mankato MoonDogs. That game will be a ‘‘Flyaway Friday’ with one lucky fan winning two tickets for anywhere Porter Airlines flies.
