
The Thunder Bay Border Cats honoured Canada’s national holiday with a dominating win to start the second half of the Northwoods League campaign.
The Border Cats scored a 15-5 victory over the Waterloo Bucks on Tuesday afternoon in front of 1,512 fans at Port Arthur Stadium on Canada Day, presented by Turnkey Communications.
Manny Alberto (Western Kentucky University) went 4-for-4, scoring four times, while driving in two runs to boost his team-leading total to 34 on the campaign.
Hayden Stringfellow (Bossier Parish Community College) was credited with 4 RBI, while Camden Tanner (University of Arkansas-Monticello) drove in three runs..
Ayden Hadley (Sacramento State University) made a strong impression in his Border Cats debut, whacking a long two-run home run to centre in the sixth as part of a 2-for-3 showing at the plate.
Will Humphrey (Western Illinois University) picked up the win in his Thunder Bay debut, throwing two-plus scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
The Border Cats wore special Canada Day jerseys that were auctioned off, raising more than $6,000 for Special Olympics Ontario.
The Border Cats are now 1-0 in the second half, with a 22-13 overall mark.
Thunder Bay concludes their six-game homestand, and four-game series, against the Bucks on Wednesday with the first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Ethan Minaker (Cal State University-Bakersfield) is the expected starting pitcher for the Border Cats. It’s ‘Weenie Wednesday’ with 2-for-1 hot dogs.
