Six runs in the seventh inning turned a deficit into a Thunder Bay Border Cats victory.
A two-run single by Jeremy Sheffield (Georgetown University) proved to be the go-ahead hit for the Border Cats as they claimed a 7-2 win over the La Crosse Loggers at Port Arthur Stadium on Monday.
Sheffield increased his team-leading RBI total to 45.
Ayden Hadley (Sacramento State University) had his second consecutive 2-RBI contest, and his fifth in a row where he has driven in at least one run. Jacob Steinberg (Belmont Abbey College), Joey Ruiz (Three Rivers Community College), and Junior Lopez (Ottawa University) each brought home a run in the winning effort for the home side.
Kaiden Ashton (Central Missouri University) was the Border Cats Cwench player of the game, with a 3-for-5 night from the leadoff spot while scoring a run and swiping a bag. Cwench is the official hydration partner of the Border Cats.
Ethan Minaker (Cal State University-Bakersfield) turned in a quality start, going six innings and allowing only two runs while punching out eight Loggers batters.
Nate Herchock (University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma) picked up the win in relief, throwing three scoreless frames.
Thunder Bay’s overall record improves to 36-29, and 15-16 in the second half. The Border Cats move to within 4.5 games of the second half Great Plains East division lead.
The Border Cats continue their final homestand of the season with a Tuesday night matchup sponsored by Gateway Casino, as they close out the two-game series against the Loggers with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. and Collin Berry (Northern Oklahoma College) expected to be the starting pitcher for Thunder Bay.
