It was a Throwback Thursday as the Border Cats celebrated Thunder Bay Whiskey Jacks Night before 1,436 fans at Port Arthur Stadium.
The Whiskey Jacks ended up on the short end of a 1-0 decision to the Duluth Huskies, but Thunder Bay starting pitcher Vincent Segovia (University of Arkansas-Monticello) turned in a masterful performance on the mound, although he ended up with a no decision. The lefthander did not allow a base hit until Andrew Ermis (TCU) of the Huskies singled leading off the sixth inning. Segovia went seven shutout innings, allowing just two hits, with no walks, and nine strikeouts. Stevie Waters (University of British Columbia) had two hits for the Jacks, raising his batting average to .298.
The Huskies pushed across the winning run in the top of the ninth on a double steal and now lead the Border Battle for the Superior Cup 6-3 with three games remaining in the season series.
The two teams wrap up their two-game set on Friday at 6:35pm. Lefthander Tyler Bribiescas (University of Arkansas-Monticello) is the scheduled starting pitcher for Thunder Bay.
