The Thunder Bay Border Cats seven game home winning streak came to an end on Thursday as they lost 8-0 to Eau Claire Express at Port Arthur Stadium. It was a rough start for the home side as the Express exploded for four runs in the first inning and then added a pair of runs in both the fourth and sixth innings. Caden Fiveash (Northwestern State University) took the loss as he gave up five hits and four runs in one inning of work to fall to 1-2 on the season.
Travis Chestnut (Texas A&M University) and Patrick Engskov (University of Oklahoma) both had two hits on the night as Thunder Bay’s record fell to 16-12. The Border Cats are once tied with the Express (17-13), for top spot in the Great Plains East Division with four games remaining in the first half of the season and a playoff spot up for grabs. The Duluth Huskies are one game back after losing a slugfest 13-12 to the Waterloo Bucks.
The Cats continue their six-game homestand on Friday at 7:35pm when they welcome the Willmar Stingers with post-game fireworks to follow. Peyton Fosher (University of Nevada) will get the start on the mound for Thunder Bay. The righthander has appeared in six games and is 2-0 with a 3.71 ERA. It’s “Fly Away Friday” as one lucky fan will win a trip for two from Porter Airlines and there will also be a draw for a free laptop courtesy of Brickhost. Fans are also asked to bring non-perishable food items in support of the Regional Food Distribution Association and those who donate will have a chance to win a Border Cats gift back, including merchandize, a game worn jersey, and free tickets to upcoming home games.
