Shane Kearbey (pictured), picked up the win in relief as the Border Cats opened an eight-game homestand with a 13-4 victory over the Rochester Honkers.
The Thunder Bay Border Cats won their third consecutive game on Saturday night beating the Rochester Honkers 13-4 before 612 fans on a chilly night at Port Arthur Stadium. The win improved the Cats record to 16-15, while the Honkers dropped to 11-22.
The Cats blew the game open with an eight-run fourth inning highlighted by a bases clearing double by Brody Chrisman (Purdue University) and a two-run home run by Lucas Terilli (Eastern New Mexico University). Duncan Mathews (University of South Alabama) added two hits and drove in a pair of runs on the night.
Shane Kearbey (University of Missouri-St. Louis) picked up his first win of the season in relief as the lefthander tossed four innings, allowing four hits and two earned runs with four strikeouts. Carter Wall (University of Utah) pitched three scoreless innings with four strikeouts to earn his first save.
The Cats and Honkers continue their four-game series Sunday night at 7:35pm. Julian Parson (University of South Carolina-Upstate) is the scheduled starter for Thunder Bay. The Cats will celebrate the Canada Day weekend with Thunder Bay’s only fireworks show following the game.
