
A two-run double from Devon Smith (Montreat College), combined with a strong eight-inning start by Braden Gluth (Creighton University), led the Thunder Bay Border Cats to their second straight victory.
The Border Cats prevailed 2-1 over the Rochester Honkers at Mayo Field on Sunday, for their seventh win in 11 matchups against the Honkers so far this season.
With the game remaining scoreless into the seventh, Smith laced a two-out double to score Junior Lopez (Ottawa University) and Caleb Watkins (Northern Oklahoma Tonkawa Community College) to draw first blood.
Gluth struck out three batters, surrendering his only run in the eighth.
Peter Fusek (University of Wisconsin-Parkside) worked a scoreless ninth inning to collect the save.
The Border Cats close out their four-game series against the Honkers on Monday, with Ethan Minaker (Cal State University-Bakersfield) expected to get the start on the mound. The Border Cats return home to Port Arthur Stadium with a Thursday doubleheader against the Willmar Stingers, with the first game scheduled to begin at 5:05 p.m. It’s Tbaytel Night, with prizes and giveaways courtesy of Tbaytel.
