The Thunder Bay Border Cats couldn’t replicate their record-setting performance from one night earlier, falling to the Eau Claire Express on Sunday.

The Express scratched out a pair of runs in each of the third and seventh innings to hand the Border Cats a 4-0 home loss at Port Arthur Stadium.

Eau Claire’s McGwire Turner drove in three runs for the visitors.

Express starting pitcher Dawson Hargrove threw five shutout innings, striking out eight batters. Thunder Bay starter Jackson Irwin (Bellarmine University) went four innings, allowing two runs, while striking out three.

Border Cats slugger Jeremy Sheffield (Georgetown University) had one of the Border Cats three hits in the game. Sheffield has hits in eight of his last nine contests.

Thunder Bay’s overall record now stands at 31-27, and 10-14 in the second half.

The Border Cats have an off day on Monday before continuing the homestand on Tuesday against the Great Plains East division second-half leading Duluth Huskies. Thunder Bay has won three of the first four matchups in the Superior Cup against Duluth.
