The Thunder Bay Border Cats opened a six-game homestand on Tuesday night, but fell 5-1 to the Minnesota Mud Puppies at Port Arthur Stadium. Minnesota took the lead early scoring three times in their first at-bat, and added a pair of runs in the second inning. The Cats lone run came in the last of the eighth inning on a wild pitch.
Pitcher Vincent Segovia made a great impression in his Border Cats debut. The lefthander from the University of Arkansas-Monticello came on in relief and fired 4 1/3 innings of one one-hit ball, striking out six Minnesota batters. Thunder Bay starter Reid Leonard (University of New Orleans) took the loss as he surrendered five hits and five runs in 1 2/3 innings. Dante Smith (North Dakota State University) reached base three times with two hits and a walk as the Cats saw their record slip to 3-6.
The Cats and Mud Puppies have an early wake up call Wednesday morning as they square off at 11:05am in the first of two School Day games on the Cats home schedule this season. The game is open to all fans with General Admission seating available on the party decks and right field bleachers. Makaio Cisneros (Florida Atlantic University) gets the start on the mound for the home side.
