The Thunder Bay Border Cats stretched their winning streak to three games Saturday night with a 6-4 victory over the Rochester Honkers before a boisterous crowd of 805 at Port Arthur Stadium.  The win improved the Cats record to 6-7, while the Honkers slipped to 5-6.
Trailing 2-0, the Cats took the lead for good thanks to a three-run third inning on an RBI groundout by newcomer Logan Groh (University of Nebraska) and a two-run double by Dante Smith (North Dakota State University).  Other offensive highlights included Manny Alberto (Western Kentucky University) reaching base four times with two hits and two walks, while also driving in a run.  Lincoln Pack (Pensacola State CC) also contributed two hits and an RBI.
Starting pitcher Luke Bryant (Ohio University) picked up his first win as the righthander went five innings, allowing five hits and four runs, with three strikeouts. George Hansen (Oakland University) came out of the bullpen and struck out three over 2 1/3 shutout innings.  Ryan James (University of Evansville) got the final five outs and fanned two Honkers, including the final batter of the game, to notch his first save.
Over the past two games, Border Cats relievers have combined for 11 scoreless innings with 17 punch outs.
The Cats wrap up their homestand Sunday afternoon against Rochester at 1:35pm with lefthander Tyler Bribiescas (University of Arkansas-Monticello) taking the mound for Thunder Bay. It’s Family Day with a package of four tickets, four hot dogs, and 4 Pepsi for just $60, plus kids can run the bases after the game.
