

The Thunder Bay Border Cats continue to play winning baseball at home as they completed a two-game sweep of the top team in the Northwoods League on Friday night with a 10-5 victory over the St. Cloud Rox.
The game was tied 2-2 through three innings, but the Border Cats scored a pair of runs in four consecutive innings to even their season record at 9-9, including 8-2 on home turf. The Rox slipped to 12-6.
Stevie Waters (University of British Columbia) continued his torrid hitting as the Toronto, Ont., native went 4-for-5 with a double and two runs batted in. Waters raised his batting average to .362. Colin Fisher (University of Houston) contributed two hits, including a two-run single, and Alex Kean (Morehead State University) also chipped in with two hits and a run scored. Rightfielder Dante Smith (North Dakota State University) had sensational game defensively with four outstanding catches, including a leaping grab at the wall in the top of the sixth inning. It started a 9-5-2 double play to end the inning and preserve the Cats 6-5 lead at the time.
Tyler Bribiescas (University of Arkansas-Monticello) notched his first win as the lefthander tossed five innings, allowing three earned runs on six hits, with six strikeouts. Ryan James (University of Evansville) pitched four no-hit innings, striking out four Rox batters for his second save of the season.
The Border Cats open a four-game road trip Saturday in Eau Claire for the start of a two-game weekend set against the Express. Righthander Luke Bryant (Ohio University) gets the start of the mound with first pitch scheduled for 7:35pm ET.
