Tyler Bribiescas (University of Arkansas-Monticello) was named Northwoods League Pitcher of the Night on Saturday after his dominating performance in the Thunder Bay Border Cats 8-2 win over the La Crosse Loggers at Copeland Park.  The lefthander tossed five innings, allowing just two hits, two walks, and two unearned runs, while striking out nine, to improve his record to 4-4. The Cats earned a split in the doubleheader with the Loggers to complete a 5-3 road trip.

Jacob Steinberg (Belmont Abbey College) had a huge night offensively as he homered twice and drove in five runs. The first baseman totalled three hits and connected for a three-run shot in the third inning as the Cats scored four times to break open a 2-2 game.  Steven Spalitta (University of Louisiana-Lafayette) belted two-run home run in the fourth and had a perfect 4-for-4 night at the plate with two doubles and two runs scored.

The opener of the twin bill was a see-saw affair and the Border Cats couldn’t hold a trio of leads and lost 11-10 in an extra inning.  Davis Newman (Augusta University) and Bennett Crafton (Bradley University) hit back-to-back home runs in the second inning and Colin Fisher (University of Incarnate Word) had two hits and drove in three runs.

The Cats play their first home game in 15 days on Sunday when they open a two-game set against the Eau Claire Express.  First  pitch is at 5:05pm at Port Arthur Stadium with Matteo Pare (Troy University) the scheduled starting pitcher for Thunder Bay.  The Cats and Express will also meet Monday at 6:35pm.
