Weather stunts Wednesday game in second inning

Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. – The back half of the series between the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (35-18, 11-6) and Battle Creek Bombers (26-27, 8-9) was unfortunately suspended due to rain on Wednesday night. Entering the bottom of the second inning, Mother Nature derailed the evening’s plans and forced a suspension with the score sitting at 1-0 in favor of the Bombers.

After both teams squandered bases-loaded, one-out chances in the first inning, the Bombers broke through in the second frame. Nick Podkul reached on an single to left field and advanced to second base on a passed ball, allowing consecutive groundouts to push across the game’s first run. Seconds after the Bombers took the field to warm up for the bottom of the second inning, the game was stopped and would not be re-started.

With the game officially suspended, the continuation has been set for 4:05 PM on August 13 when the Rafters visit Battle Creek for the final series of the regular season. Once the game resumes, the Rafters will be the home team at C.O. Brown Stadium, as the two teams play to a nine-inning completion. Following the conclusion of tonight’s suspended game, the Rafters and Bombers will engage in a seven-inning game to fulfill their originally scheduled August 13 meeting.

In response to the game’s suspension, all fans with a ticket to Wednesday night’s game will be afforded the opportunity to exchange it at the Witter Field box office for a ticket to any remaining regular-season home game.

The Rafters will return to action on Thursday night at Witter Field in the opener of a two-game series with the Lakeshore Chinooks. First pitch is slated for 7:05 PM with the gates opening at 6:05 PM
