Rafters Set to Play Double-Header in Fond du Lac

Wisconsin Rapids searches to finish 7-1 vs. Dock Spiders this season

 

Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. – After a playoff clinching night on Saturday, Wisconsin Rapids (25-7) heads to Fond du Lac (12-20) for a double-header on Sunday from Herr-Baker Field.

 

Against the Dock Spiders at Witter Field, the Rafters earned a playoff berth in a 6-2 win. It marks the third straight half the Rafters have won, dating back to last season where the team won both halves in the south division. 

 

Both teams went hitless into the third on Saturday, but Wisconsin Rapids got on the board with the first hit of the evening. Bryson Stott singled back up the middle to score Wyatt Mascarella from third base after a leadoff walk. The next batter Dustin Woodcock drove in his 25th run on the season with a fielder’s choice to the shortstop to score Nick Anderson. The Rafters added two more runs in the frame on an RBI double from Jacson McGowan and a sacrifice fly from Jake Guenther.

 

The Rafters picked up a run in the fourth and fifth innings each to push the lead to 6-0. 

 

Fond du Lac scored two runs in the sixth to break the shut-out and cut the Rafters lead to 6-2. Thomas Luevano and Joe Breaux each singled in a run for the Dock Spiders.The pitching duo of starter Quinn DiPasquale and reliever Mason McReaken baffled Dock Spider hitters all evening, with the two combining for 15 strikeouts against four walks and four hits.

 

Today, the Rafters send lefty Sam Carver out to the mound to start in game one of the twin bill. Carver is 1-2 this year, owning a 4.84 ERA in four starts. In his last start against Kalamazoo, the left-hander tossed five innings, allowing two runs and three hits. The Rafters will start TJ Fetters in the second game. The righty has one start this season with three relief appearances. Fetters has pitched in eight and a third innings with six strikeouts.

 

Game one is set for 1:05 p.m. and the second game 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one. Coverage of the games start at 12:50 pm on AM 1320 WFHR and WFHR.com, the Rafters Radio Network.
