Josh Campbell and Trayson Kubo are the latest to join Wisconsin Rapids

Today the Rafters announced the signing of infielder Josh Campbell and pitcher Trayson Kubo. Campbell and Kubo both play collegiate baseball for Stephen F. Austin State University (SFA).

“Josh Campbell is off to a red-hot start this spring,” said Rafters GM John Fanta “We’re looking forward to beginning this new partnership with Stephen F. Austin and are excited about what both players will bring to the table this summer.”

Josh Campbell is in his sophomore season with the SFA Lumberjacks. The 6-foot-3 Campbell can field multiple positions in the infield and sees most of his action for SFA at third base. In six starts this season, Campbell has a slash line of .412/.545/.588 with seven hits, a home run, four runs scored and four RBIs. The right-handed hitter from Angleton, Texas also has some speed to his game as he is 4-for-7 thus far in his collegiate career in stolen base attempts. As a freshman, Campbell made 46 appearances, 26 of which were starts. He hit .264 and collected 28 hits,16 walks, 16 RBIs and 16 runs scored. He also had seven extra-base hits his freshman year with five doubles, a triple and a home run.

Trayson Kubo is a 6-foot 180-pound right-handed relief pitcher for SFA currently in his junior year. Born in Waipahu, Hawaii, Kubo played his first two collegiate seasons for Arizona Western College. Last year, Kubo threw a total 19.2 innings in 12 appearances, including two starts. He finished with a 1-0 record and 28 strikeouts. He was utilized exclusively as a reliever in his freshman year logging 39.2 innings and 38 strikeouts. Baseball runs in Kubo’s family. His father, Trenton Kubo, played collegiate baseball for Hawaii Pacific University. His sister, Kristyn, played collegiate softball at Weber State.

Campbell, Kubo and the rest of the 2018 Wisconsin Rapids Rafters will begin their season on the road against the Madison Mallards on Tuesday, May 29th.
