Wisconsin Rapids holds on to a one-run lead to win game one of doubleheader in Kalamazoo

 

Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. – The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (28-32, 13-12 2nd half) took game one by one run over the Kalamazoo Growlers (37-24, 13-13 2nd half) 2-1. Wisconsin Rapids scored the only runs they needed in the fourth as Josh Aguilar (Bellevue) and Brecken Lewis (Dixie Lewis) combined for nine innings of one-run ball.

 

The Rafters scored in fourth off an RBI groundout from Jordan Wiley (Kalamazoo College) and a sacrifice fly from Brody Wofford (University of Central Florida). The Growlers threatened in the seventh as Matt Mervis collected an RBI single to cut the Rafter lead to one. Brecken Lewis pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth to seal the deal and earn his first save of the season.

 

Josh Aguilar (1-2, 3.98 ERA) earned the win with five scoreless frames and five strikeouts. Foster Anschutz (0-1, 3.38 ERA) suffered the loss. Brecken Lewis (1-3, 5.45 ERA) allowed one run in the final four innings to get the save.

 

Game two will start at 6:05 pm CT/ 7:05 pm ET.
