Rafters’ win suspended game, drop nightcap on the road against Rockford

The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (1-1) took a 2-0 win in a suspended nine-inning game and dropped a seven-inning game 5-3 in a Wednesday road doubleheader against the Rockford Rivets (1-1).

Richie Schiekofer posted the team’s first RBI of the season with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning of game one. Later in the sixth inning, Peter Matt stole home on the final play of the inning to give the Rafters a 2-0 lead.

Four Rafters pitchers combined for the shutout win. Matt Osterberg gets the official win in relief and Rockford’s Carter Lawler gets the loss.

In the nightcap, the Rafters fell behind 4-0 and rallied with three runs in the fifth, but could not complete the comeback, eventually falling 5-3.

Richie Schiekofer finished the day with two RBIs, going 2-for-6 on the day. Additionally, Osvaldo Tovalin went 3-for-7 at the plate.

Wisconsin Rapids now turns its attention to a road game against the Madison Mallards on Thursday at 6:05 p.m. The Rafters return home on Friday for their home opener against the Mallards at Historic Witter Field.
