Wisconsin Rapids goes for series sweep at home against Fond du Lac

Riding a five-game home winning streak, the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (16-12) look to take game two against the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders (12-16) at Historic Witter Field Wednesday.

In game one on Tuesday, the Rafters jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning and took a shutout into the ninth inning in a 3-1 victory over Fond du Lac. Starter Nathan Hemmerling got the win with five shutout innings of work and five strikeouts.

Gareth Stroh is expected to start for Wisconsin Rapids. The Nebraska product has an ERA of 1.00 and a 2-0 record. Aaron Funk is the Dock Spiders’ projected starter with a 5.30 ERA and an 0-1 record.

The Rafters are currently in second place in the Great Lakes West Division, holding a 1.5 game on both Green Bay and Wisconsin. With eight games remaining in the first half, the Rafters trail Madison by 3.5 games.

Wisconsin Rapids hits the road for three games before returning the Witter Field on Sunday, June 30, for a special appearance by the Inflatamaniacs, presented by Aspirus Riverview Hospital and Clinics.
