The Woodchucks have won two one-run extra-inning games at Witter Field this season
WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI – The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (13-13) lose their third consecutive game as the Wisconsin Woodchucks (17-9) won 3-2 in 10 innings.
The Rafters starter Jack Gonzales (Dixie State) and Woodchucks’ starter Ryan Lobus each walked three batters in the first four innings but kept their opponent off the board.
The Woodchucks got a base runner to start the fifth, and Tyler Kehoe launched a ball over the right-field wall, his first homer of the season, and first two runs of the game.
In the seventh, EJ Exposito (Long Island) and Angelo D’Acunto (Holy Cross) both singled, a sacrifice bunt from Elijah Dickerson (La Salle) moved the runners into scoring position. Addie Burrow (Virginia) hit an infield single to score Exposito, and D’Acunto was brought home on a balk from Pitcher Tom Kane, to knot the game up at 2-2.
In the top of the eighth, the Rafters brought on their closer in Brayden Bonner (Dixie State), who pitched a 1-2-3 inning.
The top of the ninth was led off by a Antonio Valdez double and error to put Colton Vincent aboard. After a groundout, there were two runners in scoring position with one out. Bonner got a flyout to center, and with two outs and the bases loaded, he handled a comebacker and threw over to first to end the inning.
Woodchucks’ Tom Kane only allowed two runners on in the eighth and worked a 1-2-3 in the ninth.
The top of the tenth started with a runner on second, and Nick Torres (Long Island) took the ball for Wisconsin Rapids. After getting two outs,
Kevin Kilpatrick stepped up and delivered his first hit of the night and ninth in six games against the Rafters this season and scored the run.
The bottom of the tenth for the Rafters, brought up 2-3-4 in the lineup which saw two strikeouts and a groundout, leaving the runner at second.
The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters face off against the Fond Du Lac Dock Spiders tomorrow Saturday, June 25th, at Herr-Baker Field. First pitch is at 6:35 p.m. You can listen to the action on WFHR AM 1320.
