Wisconsin Rapids take 1st game of the series

Wisconsin Rapids, WI— The Rafters steal a game in Fond Du Lac as they take down the Dock Spiders 3-1 in a low scoring contest. They out hit Fond Du Lac 9-7 and only committed one error in the field.

The Rafters stuck first once again as Ty Johnson slammed a ball into right field. Shortly after, Johnson got to second on a successful stolen base attempt. Brendan Bobo was up and drove a ball into deep right center to allow Johnson to get home from second. That is Bobo’s 9th RBI of the season.

Jacob Rosenkranz got the start on the mound and had 5 innings of work with 4 hits, 1 run, and tallied 2 strikeouts. Logan Shulfer came in shortly after and acquired 3 strikeouts in 2 innings of work. The Rafters bullpen appeared with 4 different pitchers and 7 strikeouts.

Wisconsin Rapids made their mark once again in the top of the 5th. Johnson led off with a single to center field. Right after that, Pepperdine player, Jack Basseer, belted a ball into deep center field which allowed Johnson to race home from 1st. The Rafters kept being disciplined at the plate. Bobo walked and Hugo was hit by a pitch which then put the bases loaded. The Dock spiders pitcher struggled to throw strikes and Shane Taylor was then walked to walk Basseer home.

Fond Du Lac got one back in the bottom half of the 5th as Luke Novitske drilled a ball into center field to send Paul Smith home. That was the only run in the night as the Rafters played exceptional defense. The Rats had 12 assists and 40 total catches. They played together as a team and got timely strikeouts when needed.

The Rafters play their first home game this week as they welcome the Dock Spiders in the second game of the series. First pitch is scheduled at 6:35.
