Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. – The shutout streak continued at Witter Field Saturday night as the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (3-13) lost 5-0 against the Madison Mallards (9-6-1). It was the second straight shutout the Rafters have dropped, but the pitchers stood out for Wisconsin Rapids. Starter Seth Spencer (2-5) pitched 5.1 innings and allowed just two runs while the bullpen allowed three runs in 3.2 innings, although the offense struggled against Madison’s elite pitching.

The Mallards got to Wisconsin Rapids’ Spencer early, adding a run in the top of the first on a sacrifice fly and another in the top of the second on Will Johannes’ first Mallards home run to make it 2-0.

Neither team scored again until the bullpen took over. In the top of the eighth, Madison’s MJ Sweeney broke that streak with a two-run shot off Rafters reliever Jace Barajas, extending the Mallards’ lead to 4-0.

One more run came across for Madison in the top of the ninth to make it 5-0 thanks to an RBI double from Cole Kosciusko off Rafters pitcher Jack Wiessinger.

The Rafters managed just two hits through the night as Mallards starter Riley Peterson (1-1) had a quality start and the bullpen locked it down to follow.

The next game for the Rafters comes away from Witter Field as they will head to Green Bay to take on the Rockers on Sunday. First pitch for that game will be at 1:05 P.M. The game will be broadcast for video on NWL+ and for radio on WFHR 97.5 FM/1320 AM.
