Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. – Post-All Star Break struggles continued for the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (4-14) at home Monday night, falling 6-0 to the Green Bay Rockers (12-7). The loss was the third straight home shutout of the Rafters after dropping both games of the series against the Mallards last weekend. While the offense went cold, the defense also struggled for the Rafters, although the pitching stood out. Rafters starter Trevor Moeck (1-1) allowed just one earned run in 4.1 innings while reliever Tyler Pechetti had 2.2 shutout frames of his own.
Wisconsin Rapids’ Moeck started things off by striking out three in a shutout first inning, but in the second inning, the Rafters committed four errors leading to four Rockers runs to make it 4-0.
From there, the two teams traded shutout innings with Rafters’ Pechetti taking over in the fifth with a runner on first and one out before he worked through the inning.
Green Bay finally pulled starter Gavin Brummund (2-0) in the seventh inning after he posted six shutout innings for the quality start. From there, Evan Miranda took over and went the rest of the way for the Rockers to earn the save (2).
Ashton Poole relieved Wisconsin Rapids’ Pechetti to start the eighth, and with runners on the corners, a throwing error from catcher Nick Adrian sent home another run to make it 5-0 Rockers.
Wisconsin Rapids’ Jafet Martinez came in for Poole for the ninth inning, and although he allowed an RBI double, he was able to work out of the inning without further damage to keep it 6-0.
The loss dropped the Rafters 2.5 games back of the Lakeshore Chinooks in the Great Lakes West standings while the Rockers moved one game ahead of the Mallards in the subdivision. The Rafters will hit the road for three straight games coming up next, starting with the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders on Tuesday. First pitch for that game is scheduled for 6:35 P.M. and it will be broadcast for video on ESPN+ and for radio on WFHR 97.5 FM/1320 AM.
