Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. – A pitcher’s duel went the Green Bay Rockers’ (15-9) way Sunday afternoon as they took down the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (6-18) in extras 1-0. It took to the 10th inning, but a passed ball did the damage despite the only run of the game being unearned. The Rafters saw Tony Torres throw three shutout innings while Justin Battle had four of his own, but the dominance wasn’t enough to get the Rafters the win as the offense mustered just one hit.

The Rafters threatened in the top of the first with a runner on third, but Green Bay starter Gavin Brummund worked out of the jam without allowing him to score.

It took until the third for the next opportunity, with the Rockers putting runners on second and third with one out, but a strikeout and groundout induced by Rafters starter Torres got him out of a shutout frame.

Two runners reached with two outs for the Rafters in the bottom of the fifth, but once again Green Bay’s Brummund worked out of it. One of those two runners was Wisconsin Rapids’ Nick Adrian, who doubled as the only hit of the game for the Rafters. He was also the only Rafter to reach base multiple times, drawing a walk late in the game.

Brummund came out of the game in the seventh, and Green Bay reliever Keaton Baird (2-0) pitched three perfect innings from there to send it to extras.

In the top of the 10th, a sacrifice bunt sent the zombie runner from second to third and a passed ball from Rafters catcher Nick Adrian scored Kasen Khansarinia to give the Rockers a 1-0 lead despite a pair of strikeouts from Rafters reliever Landon Dessart (0-1) to end the inning.

In the bottom of the 10th, the Rafters loaded the bases on Green Bay closer Ethan Alexander, but he induced a line out from Hiroto Kobayashi to finish the game and earn the save (1).

The Rockers improved to 6-0 at Witter Field with the win, finishing with a perfect record in Wisconsin Rapids this season. The Rafters will take an off day on Monday and get back to work on Tuesday with a game in Madison. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 P.M. and the game will be broadcast for video on NWL+ and for radio on WFHR 97.5 FM/1320 AM.
