Get to know your new Woodchucks Head Coach, Corey Thompson! Corey did a Q&A for us where he tells us a little more about himself and what he is looking forward to the most this summer.

What is your current role with Point University?

My current role at Point is Pitching Coach and Recruiting Coordinator

What are you doing to prepare for your college baseball season currently?

As of right now were getting everyone in shape and trying to get as game ready as possible. Our guys are so hungry for this season and have a chip on their shoulder from last year.

What does a ‘day in the life of Corey’ look like?

For the most part I get in the office and start making my recruiting calls, working on practice plans, finding ways to better our pitching staff everyday, then making my recruiting calls for the Chucks at night…And if the sun’s still up I try to get out on the lake to fish.

What changes have you had to make for the upcoming season in light of the pandemic?

The COVID situation has obviously made multiple things more difficult, the biggest change we will have to make is wearing mask on the field. But we will do anything we can to have a season this year for our guys.

What are you most looking forward to this summer with the Woodchucks?

I can’t wait to get up there and meet all the fans. Fans make summer baseball so enjoyable. The energy they give out makes those night games very intense and fun. Winning also helps…

What is your favorite thing about coaching baseball?

I love helping a young man grow, in any position in their life. When you see a kid pull out of a slump, or a rut in his life and everything starts to click for him that’s when coaching is the greatest job on earth.

Favorite sports team?

I’d have to say any of the Tampa teams. The Rays getting to the World Series, The Lightening winning the Stanley Cup, and now The Bucs and Tom Brady headed to the Super Bowl!!! (Sorry, Packer fans). What more can you ask for as a Central Florida Native.

Interesting fact about yourself?

I’m big into art, painting, photography, drawing, etc. I enjoy working on stuff as well as just going to galleries and appreciating other people’s work.

We look forward to welcoming Corey to Athletic Park this summer! Stay tuned for news on our roster coming soon!
