Battle Creek, Mich. – The Battle Creek Bombers were victors 12-3 over the Rockford Rivets in a matchup that squared off the top two teams in the south division second half standings.

The Bombers (37-23, 17-8) were down one game in the second half standings entering the series with the Rivets, but with the game one win the two ball clubs are now tied atop the south division standings.

It was Rockford (34-25, 17-8) who jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, but the Bomb Squad would answer with nine runs between the second and third innings.

JD Mundy (Virginia Tech) started the scoring for BC with a solo home run in the second.  It was Mundy’s ninth of the season, as he concluded his night 2-5 with three RBIs.

The floodgates then opened in the third, with eight runs scoring on six hits.  Nikola Vasic (McHenry County College), Alex Howard (Arkansas State), Tom Stoffel (Virginia Tech) and Mundy drove in runs.  Vasic ended his night 2-5 with two driven in, while Howard went 1-3 and had two RBIs.

In Stoffel’s three-hit day he picked up his 70th hit of the summer, joining just four other players in the league with 70 plus hits.

Starting his first game of the summer, TJ Shook (Oakland University) was phenomenal.  Shook who is a primary reliever picked up his second win as he went 7.0 innings allowing just two runs on six hits.

Several others joined the offensive parade, as Gavin Homer (McHenry County College) had himself a multi-hit game while also driving in two runs.  Cody Hawken (University of Portland) and Justin Felix (Arkansas State) each picked up a hit, and Evan Faccenda (Clarke University) drove in a run.

The game was closed out by two players who started the game in the field, with Wyatt Cross (Indiana University) and Tom Stoffel (Virginia Tech) each tossing an inning.

A pivotal game two matchup with the winner taking sole possession of first place will take place tomorrow night from C.O. Brown Stadium, first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. ET.

Tune in to the pregame show on the Bombers Radio Network with Jake Hromada and Neil Doyle at 6:55 p.m. ET.
